Summer festivals or matsuri are extravaganzas of color and exuberance, springtime hanami cherry blossom viewing is a long-time favorite, exotic lanterns at Star Tanabata festivals, or O-bon in August is a panorama of brightly colored kimono, lanterns and dancing.
